The deadline to submit applications to nominate someone for these awards is quickly approaching! Each year, the Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence program supports and recognizes the dedication, hard work and innovation of local agri-food businesses and individuals who are adding value to existing products, helping create jobs and contributing to economic growth. Up to 45 agri-food innovations across Ontario are awarded up to $5,000. An additional three top award categories include the “Premier’s Award”, where the recipient receives up to $75,000, the “Minister’s Award”, valued at $50,000, and three “Leaders in Innovation” awards, each valued at $25,000. Program applications are reviewed by two independent panels consisting of agri-food industry representatives from across the province. Last year, the Mol family of Slate River Dairy was chosen as one of the recipients of a provincial award!
Thunder Bay and Area agriculture is thriving with innovation, and our agricultural specialists have much to be praised for! Anyone is able to submit a nomination, but be mindful that the deadline of April 15, 2016 at 5:00pm is quickly approaching!
