Congratulations are in order for both Mike Visser, owner of My-Pride Farm, and Dryden’s Cloverbelt Local Food Co-op! Both were among the recipients of this years Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence.
Mike owns a veal farm located just outside of Thunder Bay. For four and a half years, Mike has been providing locally-raised, quality veal to the residents of Thunder Bay an area, including many different restaurants, retail grocers and the Thunder Bay Country Market. Mike has also recently expanded his product to other parts of Northwestern Ontario.
The Cloverbelt Local Food Co-op has been connecting northern communities and the surrounding area with the availability of locally-grown and produced food. They have also been involved in a number of other projects over the past few years including a recent regional food mapping project.

The Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence recognizes the innovative contributions of producers, processors, agri-food organizations and rural communities in Ontario. Their innovations improve existing products, create new jobs and grow Ontario’s economy. In 2016, a total of 50 award recipients were recognized from across Ontario.
